125 Gifts Initiative
To mark the IMA's 125th Anniversary in 2008, the Museum set a goal of adding 125 gifts of significant works of art to the collection. Many IMA friends responded generously to this vision of collection development, making gifts and commitments that surpassed this ambitious objective. There is no more tangible sign of a museum’s vigorous present and promising future than the robust and imaginative growth of the collections in its care.
Below is a selection of the works of art given in honor of the 125th Anniversary. They enrich each of the Museum's collecting areas and represent artistic production from cultures around the world and across centuries. Some works are already on view in the galleries, while others will arrive in the future as commitments are fulfilled and as conservation and exhibition planning allow.
