Since the early 1970s, the museum’s holdings of contemporary fashion have been enriched by many gifts of costumes made by Bill Blass, Halston, and Norman Norell, all Indiana natives. Halston, who was born in Iowa but raised in Evansville, is considered one of America’s premiere fashion designers. Halston’s purist and minimalist approach to design enabled him to create fashion that as classic, sophisticated and straightforward.
The Indiana fashion collection is almost entirely composed of pieces that were donated by prominent Indiana residents, as well as gifts of individuals residing outside of the state who are familiar with the extent of the collection.
Today the IMA is open 11am to 9pm and admission is FREE!
