This dress is from the last collection Christian Dior designed before his untimely death. At this time, Saint Laurent was Dior's assistant and it is very likely that this dress was designed by Saint Laurent under Dior's supervision. The bell-shaped skirt is similar to a line that Saint Laurent did for the House of Dior after the couturier's death.
This dress has a fitted bodice, sweetheart neckline and a long semi-full skirt in a slight bell-shape. The diagonal is accentuated by large bows. The decorative bows and wrapping of the skirt around the body seem to suggest that Dior presented women as gifts to his audiences.
