The fabric of this tunic features abstracted Lychnis chalcedonica, commonly known as MalteseCross, roses and large leaves. The flat, stylized pattern displays the designer’s attention to scale and proportion.
During the 1970s, Mary McFadden was frequently featured in Vogue for her unique look, which was based on her love of ancient and ethnic cultures. Strong interest in her style motivated major department stores to approach her and request similar versions for sale. McFadden’s tunic ensembles were regularly worn as evening wear because she focused on comfort and combined exquisite fabrics with exotic detailing.
