This two-piece dress, from the Oblique line for fall-winter 1950, offers the utmost in feminine delicacy. The color black was popular in many collections by Dior, who called it "elegant and glorious." This dress is a prime example of a strapless silhouette that Dior introduced for dining in 1950.
The bodice of the gown is tightly molded to the bust with an asymmetrical bow in the center front. The full round skirt is constructed of cascading pleats that gives the dress movement and a sculptural quality.
