Boreas, god of the cold north wind, failed to win the beautiful Orithyia with gentleness. Driven into a stormy mood, he swept down and abducted her. Like its pendant, Pluto Abducting Proserpine, this bronze is a smaller version of a sculpture made for the gardens of Versailles, outside Paris.
