Dior introduced his last two lines, Libré (Free) and Fuseau (Spindle), in 1957. His concept for these lines was "ease and walk-ability." This day dress with matching hat is a perfect example of his inspiration.

The dress represents Dior's gradual shift from a very tight, restricted waistline to a looser more naturally fitting waist. A lower neckline was achieved with gathered fabric that wrapped around the body. The hat was derived from a man's topee, also known as a pith helmet, a light-weight hat worn for protection from the sun.
