Roses, hibiscus, fleabane and bird-of-paradise flowers are depicted on the fabric of this dress. Thurn, an exclusive high-end fashion store in New York City, was famous for offering European dresses as well as creating well-made American fashions.
The uneven hems and asymmetrical hemlines of 1929 served as the transition from the shorter hems of the flapper era to the longer skirts of the 1930s. As hemlines began to fall, waistlines, which had dropped to the hip, returned to their natural position. The boyish look of the 1920s gave way to the more feminine styles of the ’30s.
