Dior was an avid gardener and often sought refuge in nature, so it is not surprising that he incorporated many floral elements into his designs. Floral prints, like this one, were favorites of Dior.
The Y-line, which debuted in fall-winter 1955, emphasized the wearer's shoulders and a slender silhouette. The narrow straps of this dress, which are set far apart on the shoulders, and its more tubular skirt, create a Y shape. The gathered fabric in the back of the dress, topped with an asymmetrical bow, resembles a bouquet.
