The dresses from Yohji Yamamoto’s spring/summer 1998 collection showed an ingenious way of draping, twisting and knotting fabric. Yamamoto achieved this by using the cloth in the direction that it was woven, along the straight grain of the fabric instead of on the bias. The same fabric was twisted and knotted to create a more dynamic sculptural effect.
