This early fragment displays the conventional vase-of-flowers, a well-known Indo-Persian decorative motif. A variety of stylized flowers and leaves forming the shape of a boteh (paisley) emerge from a small white vase on a footed dish. Small floral arrangements are placed on either side of this motif. Early shawls had an undecorated central field with decorative borders at each end. The design consisted of a row of large flowering plants or botehs.
