Returning to London in May 1802, Girtin traced his twenty panoramic drawings onto copper printing plates by means of soft-ground etching, which produced a facsimile of his pencil work.

Girtin's untimely death in November left the finishing of the etchings to professional engravers and the publication of the set to this brother John in 1803.
