Filiger was the Pont-Aven School's most consistent creator of religious images. The left panel of this Last Judgment scene presents the saved souls, gathered near a cliff rendered in banded zones of flat color. The right panel depicts the somber but remarkably calm souls of the damned. The central panel was never completed.

Filiger's emphasis on detail and his meticulous use of gold and silver set him apart from most of the Pont-Aven School. He was educated in Jesuit schools and inspired by Italian medieval painters, such as Cimabue and Giotto.
