Maillol's interpretation of the Greek myth of Leda and her dalliance with Zeus in the disguise of a swan was among the 29 bronzes by Maillol, Gauguin, Picasso and Renoir that Vollard had cast after he added sculpture to his publishing empire in 1899.

"It is thanks to Vollard that I am alive."
-Aristide Maillol
