Nkanu carving is known for its naturalism and sharply rendered, rounded and compact forms. The figure is further accentuated by its angular, upturned nose. Sacred bundles may once have been attached to the hands of this figure. Charged with power from the bundles, this figure could have been used to aid in childbirth or cure illness.
