At nineteen, Turner was the youngest of the dozens of eminent artists commissioned to paint 180 watercolors of the most picturesque spots in Great Britain and Ireland by The Copper Plate Magazine (renamed The Itinerant).
From this time, Turner's watercolor views were in high demand by print publishers until photography began replacing engraving in the 1840s.
