Humankind was central to Tamayo's art, which he depicted in an effortless compromise between the Mexican folk art of his youth and French Cubism, which he embraced.

Hoping to introduce the European collaborative print workshop tradition to America, Tamarind invited accomplished international painter-printmakers to foster working relationships with Tamarind's young printer-fellows. Here, the 65-year-old Paris-based Tamayo collaborated with the 33-year-old Ken Tyler.
