By the end of the 1800s silk rugs from the town of Tabriz were being exported to Europe in great numbers. They are renowned for their precisely drawn and expertly woven compositions.

 

The design of this rug, which relates closely to textile patterns, evokes a tranquil garden in an oasis. Cypress trees, birds and flowers are masterfully depicted in fluid and intricate drawings.
