In 1973, a gift of five dresses from the estate of Norman Norell established the Indiana fashion Design Collection. Norell, who was born in Noblesville, is considered one of the foremost American designers. This dress was made by Norman Norell for the donor’s mother, Mrs. Edna O’Donoghue Sullivan for her daughter’s wedding. Mrs. Sullivan was the directress of Norman Norell’s company for more than twenty years and was one of the fashion models for Hattie Carnegie when Norell worked for her as a designer in the 1930s.
