Watertowers
A carefully arranged grid of photographs shows nine different watertowers. The similarities between the structures show that they are nine of a type, but also show their variations in architecture and location.
Hilla and Bernd Becher have been operating on the cusp of conceptualism and documentary photography since the early sixties. In their work, they have traveled around the world, photographing and classifying industrial buildings and structures that are gradually disappearing from the modern landscape. Their photographic grids demonstrate both the similarity of these structures and the slight deviations that will occur within typologies.
