The motifs in this shawl come from Persian-influenced Mughal designs, which began in the middle of the 15th century. The Mughals emphasized the realistic imitation of nature and flowers in all forms. This shawl, with its overall design of stylized plants and flowers, differs greatly from the rest of the shawls in the exhibition, where the major ornament is the boteh (paisley) motif. This shawl, which is immaculately woven and embroidered, is reversible.
