In many parts of India red is an auspicious color associated with joy, energy, and happy unions and it is often the color of the bridal dress in the north.
As part of the attire of a Moslem bride, an elaborately patterned head shawl would have been worn with this ensemble.
The delicate floral patterns are typical of fine embroideries from the Kutch district in Gujarat. Shiny mirror discs of various sizes and shapes are intricately attached to the garment and trousers using minute stitches.
