A Tunisian woman's most elaborate garment was her wedding dress. It was worn with a headdress, pants, and finely decorated slippers.
The flat central panel is embroidered using silver- and gold-wrapped threads and embellished with metallic sequins.
The patterns decorating this dress all have important symbolism. They were thought to have protective qualities and dispelled the dangerous effects of the evil eye.
