The renaming of the club to Woodstock came after the CCI elected to vacate their original club site to build a new one further west on Country Club Road. The CCI's decision to move came as a direct result of the Woodstock real estate development. The membership split with some electing to stay at the newly named Woodstock Club and some going with the new CCI. It is presumed but not confirmed that the golf course at what is now Woodstock was built by the famous Thomas Bendelow who also layed out the first links at Highland Country Club, contrary to Highland's current revised history.
