There would be more people (probably more metro/yuppie crowd) showing up on Friday Night Happy Hour if IMA was connected with the IDADA First Friday or such. As now, you go to the museum to go to the museum. Yes, you could go to the great outside landscaping around the museum, too, but I still think of that as connected to the museum.
My wife is a fine artist, Rachel Steely and we will sometimes go to the museum to see if anything there's anything new--but it's always about the art. We always make it out to First Friday downtown because we know we will run into people we know (gallery owners and patrons) which is more social.

I often found museum’s off the beaten path to be a great place to recommend to friends. One great museum, the National Portrait Gallery, is off the traditional museum scene in Washington, D.C. that is the National Mall. Instead, the museum is located in a historically amazing building in Gallery Place-China Town. People who do not get off the Mall and to see this Museum if they are in D.C. for longer than a day are missing out on a great experience.
