4 Seasons 4-Ever

In the interest of being green and sustainable, of reducing, reusing, and recycling, and of running out of time, I’m using an email from the Bossman as the foundation for this blog post. Thanks Mark for all the facts in one concise piece of literature.

Some may have noticed a bit of a commotion going on over by Garden Terrace the last couple weeks. That’s because the IMA has received a very generous contribution allowing us to begin work on the complete rehabilitation of the Four Seasons Garden.

Wikipedia & the Cultural Sector: A Lecture and Workshop

Here’s a guest post by Lori Byrd Phillips, who is probably the busiest graduate student in the IUPUI Museum Studies Program. In addition to her coursework, she’s my teaching assistant for the Collections Care and Management course, developing the IMA’s E-Volunteer Program, interning as the in-house Wikipedian at The Children’s Museum, and a project leader for Wikipedia Saves Public Art.

The truly dedicated IMA blog reader will know that Richard has been interested in putting information about art in Wikipedia for some time, and will also remember that the IMA has been interested in doing the same: from participating in the project Wikipedia Loves Art, to Max having lunch with local Wikipedians, to a number of folks from the IMA participating in the Wikimedia-sponsored event at Museums and the Web this year.

And the Winner is….

About 900 people visited the IMA last Friday night to attend two showings of Project IMA: Fashion Unbound. Of the 40 designers that traveled from all over the country, a local designer and student, Jeremy B. Hunt won the best of show prize for his crinoline inspired ensemble made entirely of packing material and card board. The Elizabeth Kraft-Meek fashion design award of $500 was awarded to Jeremy based on the decisions of three talented judges, Jacqueline Buckingham Anderson, CEO of Style Meets Life, David Hochoy, Artistic Director for Dance Kaleidoscope and Lisa Silhanek, CEO of Silhanek Ltd., and the former director of IMG Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Now on View

Two new additions to the IMA’s renowned Pont-Aven School Collection are now on view in the Jane H. Fortune Gallery. The Corner Cabinet with Breton Scenes by Emile Bernard is a rare example of carved and painted wood furniture from the group of international artists that worked in the village of Pont Aven in Brittany in the 1880s and 1890s. The cabinet was purchased from the collection of Samuel Josefowitz, the distinguished collector who is generously giving the museum the other new work of art on view in the gallery, a preparatory drawing for the cabinet that allows us to see Bernard’s design process at work.
