Kyle blogged a bit about it in this post.

Basically what happens is this: a designer sends another designer an image that might have graphic design elements. The receiving designer then adds his/her flair and sends it back. This process repeats.

Collaborating with people you never will meet face to face is extremely easy now thanks to the internet. Not to mention, it is extremely green since you can do it from your own living room. I’ve compiled a little list of good design collaboration projects and websites that are following that same Layer Tennis model.

DesignSwap – DesignSwap’s sole purpose is to promote collaborations between designers by saying one simple thing – I design on your site, you design on mine.

Layer Tennis – Ten designers in ten cities, fifteen minutes at a time. Follow @LayerTennis on Twitter.

Dribbble – Rebounds: Respond with a follow-up of your own. Iterate and play off the shots of others.

Fark – One of the first sites to do this… and a Photoshop design contest is always in session.

I can has cheez burger? – I can’t think of a better way to waste time and collaborate creatively with others at the same time!

I’ve never taken place in a design battle, but I would jump at the chance if anybody out there in museum/design land wants to serve me. So… who wants to step into my cipher?

In case you haven’t heard yet, we’re searching for a blogger. (See instructions for submission.) So far, we’ve received nearly 20 submissions and each is pretty darn good. It’s going to be a difficult process of narrowing down the field. However, I believe that the IMA’s Social Media Committee of Excellence is up for the task, and we hope that our blog readers will in turn be up for the challenge of voting for their favorite in the coming weeks.

Blogging isn’t easy. At least not for me. I’ve been doing it for nearly 3 years (see my first blog) – since the beginning of the IMA blog (read the first post ever) – and honestly, every post is a challenge. Finding a topic and a point of view  is time consuming and hard.

If you’re thinking about blogging for yourself or for the IMA, here are some great tips that I’ve found online:

  • Me – Don’t try to be clever. Use your authentic voice and write as if you are having a conversation with someone. Let the brilliance happen naturally.
  • Rob Stein -1. Ask questions and invite response…, 2. Use a catchy title, 3. Use Lists (top 10, 7 ways to…), 4. Think about visual impact… make the post stand out from others in a readers rss aggregator
  • Matt Gipson – If all else fails, make a list! Everybody loves a list, and if you are a last minute procrastinator this might get you the most bang for you buck.
  • Daniel Incandela – Write about what you’re passionate about.

What a year. I can’t believe it is almost over. We have covered a lot of ground at the IMA. There are now 21 partners on ArtBabble! The IMA has been rolling out a new brand and I’m so excited to share that with you in 2010 with the launch of our new website.  Stay tuned for updates on that soon! We created an iTouch application in-house for Sacred Spain. The 100 Acres Art & Nature Park is getting closer every day to being ready for the 2010 opening (see The Launch of Eden II). We revealed the Indianapolis Museum of Art is adding a scientific research and analytical laboratory to its existing paintings, paper, objects and textiles conservation laboratories. For all of those reason’s I’m pretty excited to get started in 2010. But before I forget, seems like this would be a good time to reminisce over my favorite/worst things of the year.

  • Favorite Web Design Moment – @font-face. Move over sIFR and Cufon… typography on the web is about to get totally awesome.
  • Favorite App – Tweetdeck. This app alone makes Adobe Air worth the download. I think this was my favorite app last year, but each release makes this thing better and better so i’m still saying this is the best. Now would be a good time for me to plug TAP too.
  • Favorite YouTube Video – DEADLINE post-it stop motion
  • Favorite Flickr Photo – Tap into it
  • Favorite Community Activism Moment – Indy Culture Matters rally. Check out photos of this proud moment for arts & culture  in Indianapolis.
  • Favorite ArtBabble Video – Type A, In the Factory
  • Favorite News Story – This is pretty easy. Balloon Boy takes this one by a mile. I was in the office when this went live on cnn.com and we watched in horror as that poor boy crash landed to the ground… wait, there was no boy. Doh! The father who concocted this shenanigan made John Gosselin look like a saint. Coming in at a close second, Larry King’s tongue twister.
  • Favorite Reality TV Star – Russell H. Though he got robbed in the final vote, this guy was the best thing to ever happen to Survivor, period.
  • Most Influential Person of ’09 – This guy. You have to watch the the whole thing… amazing.
  • Worst Fashion Trend – Ed Hardy.
  • Favorite Meme – Keyboard Cat.
  • Favorite Quote – “Who gon check me boo?” – Sheree
  • Favorite Band – Chin Chin. If you don’t know, now you know.
  • Best Beard – Kevin from Top Chef.
  • Worst Re-branding – AOL
  • Best Re-branding – IMA (duh!) Seriously though…
  • Best Font/Type Story – Ikea Changes Its Font

Daniel resolves…To be nice. Eat Twizzlers. Play soccer. Be brilliant. To follow some advice from Ghandi: Be the change that you want to see in the world. And in the words of LL Cool J: Don’t call it a comeback, I been here for years.

Charlie resolves…For this techie to learn the difference between modern and postmodern art.

Anne resolves…To bring more film artists to the IMA and to The Toby…Wim Wenders, anyone?

Gary resolves…To get the gambling monkey off my back.  I give it 20-1 odds.

Matt resolves…To ween myself off of fast food, join a gym, and to always remember to check things in Internet Explorer before sending out a link!

Amber resolves…To live in the now! No more worrying about the future and what it holds – just live day by day and enjoy it. Also, I need to drink less soda and take my vitamins. Baby steps…

Irvin resolves (with obligatory preface)…I’m a bad, bad horticulturist so first of all – take better care of the plants I’m overwintering. Sow more seed (but no wild oats). Photograph the gardens as they develop this year.

Phil resolves… To impress Anne Laker then together continue taking over greening the world.
