Miss Intern 2008

Hi! My name is Emily, I’m a new intern around here. Since there are lots of new interns running around- I can be identified as the very tall one.

I got my bachelors from Pratt in Fashion Design, but I always knew I wanted to be more involved with the arts community as a whole and I’ve never had the cut throat mentality to be successful in that world. So, I moved back from Brooklyn (I miss it and yet, and I REALLY don’t!) I just started in the Graduate Museum Studies program at IUPUI and I have never been happier. I miss public transportation, but I love seeing real trees. So, course requirements led to my seeking out this internship. I went about getting it in a somewhat unorthodox way… and it goes to show what you can get just for asking.

Wrapping up a long weekend

I took a peek at our Google Analytics numbers and it appears that many IMA Blog readers used the holiday weekend to spend time doing things other than read our blog. That’s okay, I suppose, but you will have some catching up to do this week, so I will keep this one short and sweet. (I am also still out of the office, theoretically doing things other than work. Check out this photo of me writing this blog. Don’t I look happy working from home?)

There are all sorts of things going on in the world o’ new media these days. I thought I would tell you about a few of them. Tomorrow, I will spend the day with a few other IMA staffers, likely holed up in the IMA Cafe Read the rest of this entry »

It’s that time of year again…summer interns.

The spring semester has ended and they are starting to pour in to the museum. Who, you ask? Summer interns. Each year they invade about this time, filing in for orientation, standing in line for security processing and making their way in to departments all over the museum. This summer the Nugget Factory will be welcoming 2 interns, one of which will be really active on the blog, so I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce you to her. Please give a warm, IMA blog welcome for (D)Emily (also known as Emily Lytle).

As you may know from reading the Nugget Factory post a few weeks ago, all of the members of the Nugget Factory have names that begin with ‘D’. When (D)Emily approached us about the possibility of an internship, it seemed a requirement for her to work into that somehow. She started work this morning and will be with us at least through the summer…sometimes interns end up being around forever. That’s how we ended up with Danny.

What I love about art…and how it can make you an art lover, too!

It is an introspective sort of day. I am wrapping up an art appreciation class tomorrow with a final exam and am busy trying to get a grasp on everything happening in IMA’s Nugget Factory. It is so easy to get all wrapped up in the day-to-day hustle and bustle that I forget why I began doing this in the first place.

I love art.

I am a person typically defined by what I hate….I hate reading, I hate obnoxious people, I hate Jessica Alba (not for the reason you would think), (most) chick flicks, social inequality, people who ignore problems instead of solve them, etc. I am all over the place. From the trivial to social issues, I ALWAYS have an opinion. For better or worse. So how could I love something as big and varied as art?

Fandemonium

Ernie Cline wraps up Fanboys, Photo: Wired.comWell it has been quite a week! Since my last post there has been all kinds of attention being paid to IMA technology efforts. Richard is still flying high on the blogosphere success of his Wikipedia hijinks, journalists have been in touch with us and Daniel and I even passed on our sage wisdom to a group of IUPUI Museum Studies students last Thursday night. All in all, it feels great to be in conversation with a variety of different audiences and honestly, it feels good to have fans! Though, we have really only just begun.

I think it should be a Nugget Factory goal to someday inspire the same fervent fandom that generated the film project Fanboys.
