This hypnotic, cross-cultural performance artwork is inspired by the experimental place-based writings of Nobel Prize winner William Faulkner (The Sound and the Fury). Choreographer/dancer Oguri combines live music, shadowplay and slow movement drawn from the modern Japanese performance art of Butoh to create a darkly evocative, dream-like experience. The stage is strung with barbed wire, marking out forbidden places. The four-member troupe, dressed in southern gothic garb, faces painted chalky white, move as if to mimic inner worlds.
