浅草川首尾の松•御厩河岸,
from the series 100 Famous Views of Edo 名所江戸百景
Although difficult to make out in this dark impression, the pine tree of the title is on the left, above the covered boat. Shaped like a dragon and visible from the river, the pine became a local landmark and a favorite meeting place for secret lovers. The boats are carrying passengers to the pleasure quarters of Yoshiwara. One tale attributes the pine tree's name to the custom of telling the tree about the previous night's experience in Yoshiwara before returning home.
