In this image, a nursemaid and her charges sit in the dappled sunlight of the gardens bordering the Champs-Elyseé s, watching the passing parade of carriages and pedestrians along Paris' most famous thoroughfare.

Neo-Impressionist prints are quite rare, and Cross produced only two in the course of his career. Both were created under the expert guidance of the printer August Clot and commissioned for inclusion in portfolios of original prints by leading contemporary artists. On the Champs-Elyseés was among the prints published in Berlin by the art revue Pan for its large international readership.
