Payne Bowles, born in Indianapolis, was an important Arts and Crafts metalsmith who gained an international reputation for her unusual metalwork and jewelry.
Payne Bowles pursued her career following her 1895 marriage to Joseph M. Bowles, founded of Indianapolis' Modern Art journal.
