Xiang's inscription reads

多情有恨人見, 月曉風清言語時。

Many affections and regrets - no one notices;
While a clear moon and gentle breeze empathize.

Xiang's poem plays on the wording from a poem called "White Lotus 白蓮" by the Tang poet Lu Guimeng 陸龜蒙 (died about 881).  (無情有恨何人見,月曉風清欲堕時)
