This bronze shows Pluto after being struck by Cupid's arrow, carrying off Proserpine to his underworld kingdom. Like Boreas Abducting Orithyia, this work is a smaller version of a sculpture that forms part of the decoration of the garden at Versailles. Both are based on models by Charles Le Brun, Louis XIV's most prolific designer.
