The opposing candidates dispute with each other in the polling booth, while clerks administer the oath to a variety of voters who have been brought by the parties from hospitals and jails: a maimed former soldier, an imbecile, and a dying man. To the right, Britannia’s coach is out of control because the coachman and the footman are preoccupied with the game of cards.
