This bust of a young man is a fragment of a full-length, armor-clad figure. In spite of a resemblance to Philip the Handsome, the ill-fated Austrian archduke, this work probably represents St. Adrian, the principal military saint of Flanders. A lion, one of the saint's attributes, was formerly present at his feet.
