Pyne's view sweeps from the windmills on the Point de la Varde across the bay to the peninsular fortified town of St. Malo and its suburb St. Servan on the coast of Brittany.
St. Malo was the debarkation point for Channel streamers from Southampton and the most convenient landing for English tourists on their way to nearby Mont St. Michel, including James Baker Pyne.
