This book of 21 illustrations without text was completed a year before Blake's death.  Throughout his own life of struggle, Blake often drew inspiration from the patient forebearance and ultimate redemption of the biblical Job.  His illustrations are highly personal.  Blake drew the designs, added significant Scripture from both the Old and New Testament, engraved every plate and published the whole.  Its idiosyncracies generated little public enthusiasm and only later was it heralded as one of the most creative works of engraving since the Renaissance.
