In heavenly council the Lord asks Satan whether he knows of the pious Job.  Satan replies that piety is easy for a rich man.  "But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he has and he will curse thee to thy face."  In spite of the angels pleading Job's innocence, God permits Satan to test Job, provided his person is not touched.  In the margins are symbols of Innocence as well as the peacock of vanity and the parrot of vain repetition.
