Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders works in ceramics, furniture, glass, interior design, metalwork, and product design, for such clients as Cappellini, Droog Design, Marcel Wanders Studio, Moooi, Royal Tichelaar Makkum, and Wanders Wonders. Wanders’s awards are extremely varied. He received first prize in the Café Modern (Nescafé) design competition (in 1986); two citations for the Designprijs Rotterdam (1993 and 2000); the Kho Liang le applied arts consolation prize, from the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst (1996); the Designprijs Rotterdam for Knotted Chair (1997); and the George Nelson Award, Interiors magazine (2000). In 2002, he participated in an invitational competition (with twenty-three others) at the Museum Het Kruithuis, ’s-Hertogenbosch, for the design of a crown for the wedding of Prince Willem-Alexander and Maxima Zorreguita. Recent awards include Designer of the Year at the Elle Decoration International Design Awards (2006), and the Visionaries! Award for artists presented by
the Museum of Arts and Design, New York (2007).
