Class: Art Jolt: The Spanish Imagination

Want an art history lesson without a big time commitment? Each Art Jolt is an information-packed course in just two hours.

Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm

How can something as intangible as spiritual values be represented in visual form? Many works included in the special exhibition Sacred Spain: Art and Belief in the Spanish World represent efforts to do exactly that. This class will examine the proliferation of these depictions both in the exhibition and in the Museum’s permanent collection. We will consider the ways in which artists expressed what was, by definition, ineffable and unrepresentable. Similarly, we will take into consideration the religious practices and aspirations that informed and motivated such representations. Taught by Rebecca Long, IMA’s Clowes Fellow.

Register by October 14.
