About Sam Easterson
Sam Easterson has been making video art for over 10 years. Included among the art museums that have exhibited his work are the Whitney Museum of American Art “Biennial Exhibition” (New York), the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), the International Center of Photography (New York) and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (North Adams). Easterson’s company, Animal Vegetable Video, has also made a name for itself by capturing innovative video footage for science museum exhibits and television broadcasts. Past clients include Animal Planet, the Exploratorium, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and the National Museum of New Zealand.
During his career as a video artist, Easterson has also appeared as a featured guest on the “Late Show with David Letterman”(CBS), “Headline News”(CNN), “24 Frames News”(Sundance Channel) and on “The Animal Planet Report”(Animal Planet). In addition, he has also lectured to audiences at the Yale University Peabody Museum of Natural History (New Haven), the Center for Land Use Interpretation (Los Angeles), the Nature Sounds Society (Oakland) and at the University of California, Los Angeles. His work has been reviewed in numerous publications including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Kansas City Star and New Yorker Magazine, among others.
Easterson is a graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York and also earned a Master of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He has received grants from the Creative Capital Foundation, the Yellow Fox Foundation, the Durfee Foundation and the Margaret Hall Silva Foundation, among others. In addition, Easterson is also a recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Prize.
