The Art Parade Photo

The Art Parade first took place on September 10, 2005, on a stretch of Grand Street in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. The gallery Deitch Projects issued an open call for projects and invited artists, performers, and designers to create floats, placards, performances, and various spectacles. The first parade included 650 participants and attracted more than 3,000 spectators. In the two incarnations of the annual parade since, The Art Parade has more than doubled in size and expanded to a much longer stretch of West Broadway. Conceived as an exhibition in the streets, the parade embraces a more democratic inclusion process and an exuberant, anarchic spirit. On Procession presents photo and video documentation of The Art Parade as well as a selection of past projects, including works by Michael Bilsborough, Matthew Blair, Bob and Seth, Sydney Croskery, John Erickson Museum of Art, Fawad Khan, Yoko Ono, and Kembra Pfahler/ The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black.
