The Arthole collective invited friends from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, as well as audience members, to participate in their robot brigade for the April 26th parade in connection with this exhibition. As these low-tech robots marched along the parade route, interacting with other parade participants, they carried a portable CD-player playing music from Magmonaut, a concept band from Cincinnati, Ohio.
In the words of the artists, Magmonaut writes, performs and records music and videos around the adventures of “a European-made, autonomous volcanic robot“ exploring Earth’s inner core. These adventures include “encounters with magma worms, subterranean creatures and various other quagmires that might be lurking in this mysterious unexplored realm.” In the spirit of these adventures, Arthole performed an exploration of the streets and parade participants that included communicating with the audience through gestures and a mock battle with artist Michael Runge’s dragon. A spaceship named for the band Magmonaut, worn by two artists in the parade, is also on view in the gallery.
