This food bowl was formed using a pottery wheel. It incorporates ancient floral surface designs using plant and vegetable dyes. These dyes require a second firing in order to fix the color and render the surface waterproof. The plant designs spin out from the center in a balanced arrangement that suggests movement and stimulates the eye. This centered orientation is commonly found on vessels from Islamic cultures.
