In this series of four drawings, characters cluster around flags. In some cases, uniforms identify them as one society or group. Ali's figures regard their flags with varying responses similar to the constituents of any national populace: one appears to make an oath of loyalty, another ignores the flag altogether.

The series was created following an exhibition of Ali's work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The drawings are on invitations from that museum, whose return address is visible through some of the flags. Ali recalls responding to the "hyper-symbolism" of the United States flag, especially in the aftermath of September 11th.
