Each month, drop by the Star Studio Classroom to find new art-making projects inspired by works of art on view at the IMA. Projects are designed to be accessible and fun for museum visitors of all ages and all levels of art-making experience.
August / Just Sew, Sew
Discover the art of bookmaking. Using a needle and thread, learn basic binding techniques and fashion your very own mini-journal to take home.
September / Swat Team
Armed with a fly swatter, slap and smack paint onto a mini canvas panel. Create a colorful composition inspired by brightly patterned furniture found throughout the Contemporary Design galleries located on Floor 3.
October / A Hair Raising Event
Draw a spooky self-portrait. Make your hair stand on end using a straw and watercolor paint. Scare your friends and family when your composition is complete.
November / Colossal Collage
Inspired by the work of famous artist, Georgia O’Keeffe, create an enormous three-dimensional flower. Layer a variety of decorative papers to make each petal unique.
December / Snow Day
Check out the Caldecott winning book, Snow. Using tape and a sheet of paper, design a wintry landscape. Then, paint and peel away the tape to reveal the beauty beneath.
