Each month, drop by the Star Studio Classroom to find new art-making projects inspired by works of art on view at the IMA. Projects are designed to be accessible and fun for museum visitors of all ages and all levels of art-making experience.

What’s your favorite letter or number? Put it in print. Using plexiglass plates and Q-Tips®, create a colorful monoprint. Then, visit the special exhibition, The Essential Robert Indiana.
April / April Showers
Step into spring. Splash and spray! Using watercolor paint, create a colorful composition. Add texture to your work of art using salt. For inspiration, visit our gardens and grounds.
May / Silly String Sculpture
Stand back Sandback! Armed with a can of silly string and aluminum wire, construct a geometric sculpture. For inspiration, visit the contemporary installation, Untitled, designed by artist Frederick Sandback and located on the fourth floor.
June / Pointy Painting
Visit the special exhibition, Face to Face: The Neo-Impressionist Portrait. View works by famous painters like Vincent van Gogh, Paul Signac, and Theo van Rysselberghe. Then, using bubble wrap, create a painting bursting with colorful dots.
July / Sassy Glassy
Inspired by the newly installed Glick glass collection, design a swirly-twirly sculpture using vibrantly colored plastic Krazy straws.
August / Just Sew, Sew
Discover the art of bookmaking. Using a needle and thread, learn basic binding techniques and fashion your very own mini-journal to take home.
