Artist Talk & Film: Heather Rowe & The Conversation
The Toby
New York-based artist Heather Rowe, whose installation Tenuous Arrangements is currently on display, will give a brief talk about her work and introduce a screening of The Conversation (dir. Francis Ford Coppola, 1974, 113 mins., PG).
Coppola’s thriller features Gene Hackman as Henry Caul, a surveillance expert hired to spy on a cheating wife and her lover. After gathering evidence of the affair, Caul becomes hesitant that his findings could get the lovers murdered. Caul becomes intertwined in the lives of the lovers, and eventually finds himself a target.
Rowe's sculptural installations share many themes with The Conversation: surveillance, control, and anxiety. Rowe will discuss how the reality of Caul's situation -- versus what he might be imagining -- leads to a direct confrontation with architecture.
Free event, ticket required.
