Samsara

(2011, dir. Ron Fricke, 99 mins., NR)
Samsara is a Sanskrit word that means “the ever-turning wheel of life.” Filmed over a period of five years in twenty-five countries on five continents, and shot on 70 mm film, Samsara transports us to sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial complexes, and natural wonders in the company of monks, garbage pickers, robots, prisoners and pilgrims. By dispensing with dialogue and descriptive text, Samsara subverts expectations of a traditional documentary. With breathtaking images and transcendent music that infuses the ancient with the modern, Samsara explores the wonders of our world, from the mundane to the miraculous: a cinematic guided meditation. Shown in 35 mm.

Special sneak peek! Audience limited to 100 people. Samsara opens widely Friday, September 21 at Keystone Arts Landmark and AMC Castleton Square 14.
