Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008, 96 mins, dir. Matt Tyrnauer) is a documentary portrait of fashion’s emperor of fantasy glamour. Launched in 1960s Rome, Valentino’s house produced exquisite works of fashion art worn by Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and many others. The film follows the imperial Valentino Garavani, his lifelong partner Giancarlo Giammetti, and their six pugs across Europe in 2007 as they prepare one of his final couture shows and a retrospective at the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome. The breezy soundtrack is by Nino Rota, who scored many a Fellini film. The New York Times called the film “a must-see for fashion lovers.” After the film’s conclusion, director and producer Matt Tyrnauer will join the audience for a Skype Q&A session.
